Case file and document analysis

A case-file analyst that reads every document and shows you the page.

The File Analyst module works on documents you upload and your firm’s document library. It extracts facts, orders events by date, finds missing elements by document type, compares versions, and asks the same questions across many documents to answer in a table. Every quote in an answer shows where it sits in the document.

Step by step

  1. Open the File Analyst module
Select the client if relevant; approved facts and deadlines are added as context.
  2. Attach documents or find them in the library
Upload with the paperclip icon or ask “Find the rent determination petition we wrote last year” to pull it from the firm library.
  3. Describe what you need
Ask for fact extraction, a timeline, a completeness check, a comparison or a table review.
  4. Approve the result
Facts and timeline events are saved to the file only when you approve them, and are then used in all later answers.

What you can do

Case facts

Extracts parties, dates, amounts, docket and file numbers, court, statutory provisions and events from documents. Facts you approve are saved to the file and added to later answers as context.

Example request
“Extract the case facts from the attached documents.”

Timeline

Combines dated events in the documents (contract, notice, service, payment, lawsuit, judgment) with the client’s recorded deadlines, hearings, facts and UYAP documents in a single timeline. Every date from a document is verified against the sentence it appears in.

Example request
“Build the timeline for this case.”

Completeness check

Rule-based check of mandatory elements by document type: statement of claim, court judgment, hearing minutes, power of attorney, lease agreement, formal notice. Missing items are listed with severity and legal basis.

Example request
“Is anything missing from this statement of claim?”

Document comparison

Compares two documents (old and new contract versions, draft and signed text) at paragraph, sentence and word level; lists added, deleted and changed parts with page and clause numbers.

Example request
“What changed between these two contract versions?”

Multi-document table review

Asks the same questions across several documents and returns a table with documents as rows and questions as columns. Long jobs show an estimated cost for approval first.

Example request
“What are the rent, increase rate and termination notice period in these leases?”

Page- and paragraph-referenced answers

When answering questions about a document, shows each quote’s location as “p.2 ¶3”. A quote that cannot be found verbatim is not shown.

Example request
“Where is the penalty clause in this contract? Show me the page.”

Firm document library

Office files, client documents and case documents are searchable from chat in one place. A found document can be brought into the chat and processed with the other tools.

Example request
“Find the rent determination petition we wrote last year.”

Tips

  • Keep table-review questions short and unambiguous; each becomes a column.
  • OCR quality affects scanned documents; upload text-based PDFs when possible.
  • Approved facts are used in every module; correct a wrong fact instead of approving it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I trust the quotes in answers?

Quotes are searched verbatim in the document and their location (page, paragraph) is shown; a quote that is not found is left off the card. We still recommend checking key points in the document.

How many documents can I review at once?

Table review processes several attached documents together. For very long documents the first part of each is used, and the card says so.

Which documents does the library search cover?

Your firm’s office files, client documents and case documents. Another firm’s documents are never visible.
